Built around your home. Paid to your family.
Matched to your loan
Coverage amount and length are chosen to fit your balance and the years left on your mortgage.
Your rate is locked
With level term coverage, your premium stays the same for the entire term.
Paid to your family, not the bank
Your beneficiaries get the money and decide how to use it — pay off the home or cover the bills.
Mortgage protection vs. PMI: who gets paid?
They sound alike, but they protect different people. Here’s where the money goes in each case.
Mortgage protection
- You pass away while the policy is in force
- The insurance carrier pays the death benefit to your beneficiaries
- They decide how to use it: pay off the home, keep making payments, or cover other bills
Private mortgage insurance (PMI)
- You stop making your mortgage payments
- PMI pays your lender part of its loss
- Your family isn’t paid, and still owes the mortgage
Coverage that stays the same
As you pay down your loan, the balance shrinks. Your coverage doesn’t, so the gap between the two goes to your family.

Level coverage
- The death benefit stays the same for the whole term
- Your premium is locked for the length of the term
- Simple to understand: you always know what your family would receive
As your balance drops
- More is left over for your family after the home is paid off
- The extra can cover bills, childcare, college, or savings
- Your beneficiaries decide how to use every dollar
What if I refinance or move?
Your policy belongs to you, not your lender, so it stays in force as long as you pay the premiums, even if you refinance, sell, or move. Your coverage amount stays the same, but if a refinance raises your loan, it’s worth a quick review to make sure your coverage still fits.
This chart shows the general idea and isn’t drawn to scale. Coverage amounts and terms depend on the carrier and the policy you choose.

If your income stopped tomorrow, could they keep making the payment? Mortgage protection is made for:
- New homeowners who just closed on a house
- Families who rely on two incomes to pay the mortgage
- Anyone who refinanced or took on a larger loan
- Homeowners whose work coverage wouldn’t follow them to a new job
- Optional living-benefit riders for serious illness

Is this the same as PMI?
No. PMI protects the lender if you stop making payments. Mortgage protection protects your family, and the benefit goes to the people you name.
Does the coverage go down as I pay off my loan?
No. The policies I offer are level term, so the benefit stays the same for the whole term even as your balance shrinks. The difference goes to your family.
What if I sell or refinance my home?
The policy belongs to you, not the lender, so it stays in force as long as premiums are paid — you can keep it for your next home.
Do I need a medical exam?
Not always. Many carriers offer options that use health questions instead of an exam. Your age, health, and coverage amount decide what’s available.
